Omega Night Observatory

The Omega Night Observatory is the moniker I have given to my backyard, observing the night sky and the sun. I have always been fascinated with the night sky. Growing up in central Kansas and camping with the Cub/Boy Scouts, I often looked at the stars. At one point in my life, I yearned to be an astronaut and dreamed of riding aboard the Space Shuttle to break the surly bonds of Earth. That never happened, but I have turned those dreams into a passion for capturing the wonderments of the night sky!

Astrophotography

So, what exactly goes into my astrophotography process? It all starts with my telescope or, rather, my astrograph! Here is the equipment I use to capture my images of the night sky:
  • William Optics RedCat71 WIFD Astrograph
  • ZWO AM3 Harmonic Drive Equatorial Mount Head
  • ZWO ASIAIR Plus WiFi Camera Controller
  • ZWO 5-Position Electronic Filter Wheel
    • Antila Quad-Band Filter (for light pollution)
  • ZWO ASI220MM Mini Guide Camera
  • 3 Legged Thing Brian Tripod (Amazon Affiliate Link)

I have a portable power pack if I go somewhere away from home to get more remote and darker skies. I soon aim to return to the Grand Canyon with my equipment this time. The stars there are just incredible!
